Title: Exemption Specialist - Assessor's Office

Salary: $17.28 hr


EXEMPTION SPECIALIST (Assessor’s Office): Under general supervision, reviews and approves applications submitted to the Assessor’s Office for properties qualified/not qualified for exemptions, primarily including Legal Residence, and assists in the approval process for Multi Lot discounts, builder’s exemptions, agricultural and HOA exemptions. Reviews all refund and adjustment changes in assessment ratios, corresponds with the public regarding application completeness, as well as assists the public by way of telephone, office visit and fax, and other related duties as needed.



  • Associate’s Degree in Business or Sociology or a 2 year technical certificate
  • One year of experience performing clerical functions in a public environment
  • Computer literacy including Microsoft Office Suite (primarily Word/Excel)
  • Basic communication, comprehension and math skills required
  • Excellent customer services skills
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license

All applicants tentatively selected for a position with Beaufort County Council will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for the illegal use of drugs and to a background check prior to appointment. Employment is contingent upon clearing both the drug screening and background investigation.
